Polished stone tiles have an elegant and stately appearance. Each tile naturally varies from the others in color and pattern. Marble tiles tend to be veined. Granite is usually speckled. Travertine is mottled and veined. Tumbled stone looks entirely different from the polished version. Tumbled marble has a porous texture that is sometimes even sponge-like.
Though it is beautiful, natural stone is more porous than ceramic tile and requires a regular application of sealant to keep it from absorbing stains and moisture. For this reason, Santa Rosa Tile is seeing an increased interest in ceramic tiles that mimic stone.
